Shrewsbury, 'Island in Seven Stream', lies inside a sweeping bend of the River Severn, in the heart of the Shropshire countryside. It's easily defendable site in on a ridge of glacial deposits.
Originally it is believed, a palace of a welsh prince once stood on this site. Shrewsbury's origins however are essentially Saxon and derive from the enforced move from the burnt out town of Roman Viricomium (Wroxeter) 5 miles away.
Shrewsbury is particularly rich in half-timbered buildings such as Rowley's Mansion and part of the Lion & Pheasant. As a fashionable town, it was on the main London to Holyhead coach route.
The Lion & Pheasant is a 16th century hotel situated in the centre of an historic and attractive county town. Tastefully renovated to retain its character and charm with many exposed beams and an inglenook fireplace.
The restaurant and bar are open to non-residents with a warm and friendly atmosphere and real ale. Bar meals are available.
There are 27 comfortably furnished bedrooms and car parking for up to 20 cars.
The hotel is an ideal location to visit historic Shropshire and Welsh marches.
